I’ve been using WindowMaker for years now, and thought I knew about it’s possibilities pretty well. Turns out there’s a feature I really didn’t know about.
When pulling up the ‘Windows’ list, normally done by clicking the middle mouse button, you will get a list of all the windows currently open on every virtual desktop. It’s realy handy for quickly switching between windows using the mouse. Once the window list is open, you can click the titlebar to keep it from closing automatically when you choose a window from the list. This will probably be old news to anybody using WindowMaker, since it’s a pretty well known feature.
However: Did you know you can drag the window to the bottom of the screen so only the titlebar is showing, and it will act like an auto-raise menu for your windows? When moving the mouse over the title bar and downwards, the window will ‘unfold’ and show all the current open windows. When you pick a window from the list, WindowMaker will switch to that window and, get this, colapse the window list back down so only the titlebar is showing. It feels the same as the auto-hide feature some menu-bars in some desktop enviroments have. Pretty neat.

I’ve transfered and refactored the old Vim and Firefox pages from my old homepage over to this place. They’re here: Firefox and Vim.

I’ve put in place a new News and Log module. Since I slaped it together in a few hours, it might still contain some bugs. I’m thinking about open sourcing the thing once it’s done, since it’s pretty modular. It can be included in other pages without much work (as you can see here). But first i’ll try it out for a while to see if it contains any bugs.

Well, this page is now officialy W3C XHTML 1.0 Transitional compatible. Not that it matters all that much, but it’s nice nonetheless. Unfortunally there are only two browsers which are fully XHTML 1.0 transitional comptible: Mozilla and Internet Explorer.. and I’m not even sure about that last one. Oh well.
update: Well, after putting in the new log module, this page isn’t valid XHTML transitional anymore. This due to the OnClick param in link tags. Well, back my usual “Fuck the W3C”-mentality again then.
Update 2: Oeh, I’ve managed to fix it again. I keep forgetting that XHTML is case-sensitive, so it should be: onchange instead of OnChange.

Bush supports an amendment to the constitution that would ban gay marriage. This I really do not understand? I thought the constitution of America was there to protect the right and equality of all its citizens? Life, liberty and the persuit of hapiness, my ass. ‘the persuit of hapiness as long as it fits within a certain person’s view on the subject. I mean, I’m not pro-gay, but I’m not anti either. I can understand a reluctancy against a gay couple adopting a child, because the child might be at risk in some way or another.. but marriage? Who will it hurt when gay couples marry? nobody. America, the land of the free… yeah right.
Bush is becoming more and more pathetic in my eyes each time he opens his mouth. The war on terrorism bullshit excuse to invade a country he has been itching to invade. Weapons of mass destruction propaganda. Islam propaganda. Gay propaganda. I’ll tell you.. if somebody decided to take Bush out, I’d be partying out on the street. Unbelievable that in this day and age there can still be so much fear and hate for the unknown.
Can’t pick on the blacks anymore? Doesn’t matter, there’s always the gays! This is the worst president of the U.S yet.

I had to repackage Proms v0.10 about 6 times because every time I’d find a new bug in the installer or something else which didn’t show up during the testing.. but it’s finally here: Proms v0.10.

ESR, also known as Eric S. Raymond wrote an open letter addressed at the CEO at Sun containing a ‘plea’ to set Java free. Simon Phipps of Sun responded to it in an interview in PCPro. To this letter ESR replied again.
Now, I don’t really care about Raymond’s personal oppinion, nor do I care about Sun’s. What I do care about is the way Raymond is assuming in his letters (as well in daily life) that he is the voice of the Open Source community. Or as he would rather see it, the Open Source Dictatorship with Raymond as the headhoncho. Where does this piece of sh…. wait, let me first cool down a bit before I continue… Where does he get off that he can speak for any of the Open Source community? Check out his carefully (*ahem*) chosen wording: “We don’t presume to dictate Sun’s strategy. But what we do require of anyone before we will accept them as a ‘friend of the open-source community’ is…“. Well, thank you very much, Raymond, for deciding for me what the definition of a ‘Friend of the open-source community’ is. Thank you for not accepting their friendship and putting the whole open-source community to shame with your conduct against a company who has done a whole lot more for the community than most companies. The way I see it is: There’s the enemies (bent on destroying open source), there’s the neutrals (perhaps using open-source and propriety but not contributing) and there’s the friends (those whose contribute). So.. that makes Sun a friend of Open-Source in my oppinion, Raymond.
Raymond always had this thing for playing god amongst the community. He seems to get his kicks on by being an extremely obnixious ‘voice of the open-source community’. Well Raymond.. my question to you than, just as you posed for Sun: Who the hell are you to decide that you are our voice? And don’t slap that ‘I never said that’ shit on me, ’cause it’s evident from your conduct in the last years. And you’ve also never protested against being called that in articles, so you can’t use that excuse now either.
Eric S. Raymond… What an asshole.

Although I was pretty satisfied with the previous design, other people weren’t. Especially for them, I’ve designed a new look for this page and put it online. Okay, okay, I was screwing around in the Gimp during some stray hours and worked up this rather nice design by accident. Then, you know, I just had to implement it.
