I'm Ferry Boender, a 29 year old Software Engineer. I was born and raised in Barneveld, a small village in The Netherlands. I currently live in Utrecht.
I think I'm probably best described as a computer nerd (though hopefully I don't look like one). My interests aren't limited to computers though. I also thoroughly enjoy travelling, reading (from pulp to literature), nature, walking, photography, music (from Bach to Pantera), history, science, spending time with my friends and expanding my horizons in general.
I was never one for basic education.. too much of the boring stuff, too little of the interesting stuff. During high-school (MAVO for you dutchies) I joined a computer club and finally found something worth my time: programming. Fortunate for me; less fortunate for my grades, except for exact sciences. I'd already done a bit of programming on my dad's MSX home-computer, and now I was picking up where I left of.
After high-school, I studied Computer Sciences at the TCE (Technical College Ede), a horrible, horrible school. After graduation, somewhere in 2000, I went on to study Advanced Computer Sciences at the HAN (Arnhem and Nijmegen's School Of Higher Education) where I graduated Cum Laude in 2004 and got my Bachelors degree.
I'm not really one of those 'career' guys. I do what I like and as long as I like doing that, there's no need for change. I won't be found dead in a suit, with or without a tie. Most of my jobs have been related to programming so far. I find that I prefer to work in smaller companies, mostly because of the atmosphere and the lack of stricter rules.
I've worked for a handful of companies, usually as a vacation job or as an intern and have done stuff from systems administration to development.
I currently work for ZXFactory, a small company in Ede, where I fill the role of Software Engineer. I mostly work on our in-house server monitoring system, but whenever something else comes along I tend to pick that up too. I've written anti-spammer systems for Casema (a large dutch ISP), data warehousing, Business Intelligence type stuff for Stichting Kennisnet, etc.
In the past and in my daily work I touch upon a wide variety of different programming languages, databases and other technologies. It's quite interesting.
Here's my Curriculum Vitae:
